The Girl Scouts
Heart of the South Headquarters in Memphis will be relocating by year’s end to 717
S. White Station Rd., Memphis, TN 38037.
We will close the current office the week
of January 24 through 28 for the move.
How was the decision made?
- Several years
ago the council board determined that this move would be in the best interest of
the entire council and the girls we serve.
- Adult Members
were surveyed for input in 2009.
- Early this year
the GSHS Board of Directors and members of the Finance and Property Committees
completed an extensive due diligence process of the real estate market. The
board approved the location and purchase in late September, 2010. The target
move date is year-end 2010.
Why is this good for Girl Scouts?

Owning our own
Headquarters property is the fiscally responsible choice and will ensure that we
continue to be good stewards of girls’ resources.
- The Girl Scout
Promise and Law outline our core values. The Girl Scout Law challenges us to
“use resources wisely.” Purchasing this property will allow us to put more
resources towards girl programming throughout the council
- Over the next
several years, owning our Headquarters versus renting, will save the council at
least $50,000 per year.
- The new
headquarters location will provide better visibility for Girl Scouts, more
accessibility for members and customers, and is more centrally located within
the I-240 and Poplar corridor.
- The new
proximity to I-240 will benefit those living within, as well as those visiting,
the greater Memphis area.
visibility positions Girl Scouts Heart of the South one step closer to reaching
our vision of being recognized by the
community as the premier source of girl
