The Women's Foundation for
a Greater Memphis Funds The Sky's the Limit for Girl Scouts
With
science and technology fields predominately populated by males, Girl Scouts
Heart of the South created “The Sky’s the Limit” program to engage girls in
aviation fields. This program is being made possible by a grant from The
Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis.
“We are honored to receive this grant,” said Sharon Baade, Interim CEO of
Girl Scouts Heart of the South. “We can talk about leadership, but when
we inspire girls and advance their possibilities, we get to see firsthand how
real leadership grows.”
The Sky’s the Limit is a component of the STEM program which seeks to
develop girls’ interest in non-traditional careers such as Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math (STEM). Statistics show only 22 percent of jobs in
these fields are held by women. Introducing girls to women who are succeeding
in non-traditional jobs builds confidence in their own abilities and limitless
potential.
This program gives girls new possibilities as they become this country's
future workforce. Girl Scouting helps girls find their voice, affirms who
they are, and allows them to have new experiences…and it’s fun,” said
Baade.
"Girl Scouts Heart of the South has an unwavering
belief in the power and potential of girls. We cannot remain competitive as a
nation or solve the country's most challenging problems without tapping the
full
potential of girls from every segment of our
society,” said Baade.
