Fun Activities for the Whole Family
Looking for ways to help in your community? We've started a list of ideas to consider.
Make lap blankets for senior citizens living in nursing facilities. Your donations will need to be delivered at a later date, but now is the perfect time to create blankets that will be very much appreciated by the residents. Directions for easy, no-sew blankets can be found on Pinterest: No sew fleece or Big loop knit
Gather non-perishable food items by having girls leave them on the troop leader or designated parent’s porch. Place items in a plastic or otherwise weather-proof and secure container and place them throughout the community near Little Libraries, community parks or community centers.
With your family, visit a local community garden or park and pull weeds, add new mulch and clean up the garden for others to enjoy!
Use your Social Media skills and let people know that you’re a Girl Scout and you can take their tattered and worn out American Flags for retirement. Place a collection box in a public place and direct people to leave their flags in the box. Study up on Flag Retirement Ceremonies and hold a flag retirement ceremony in your own backyard. Be sure to follow your city’s laws and regulations on open flames and burning in your area.
Paint Rocks with inspirational messages to leave throughout your community for others to find while out walking.
It’s good to get outside and take a walk for some fresh air! Before you head out, grab a trash bag and pick up trash that you see along your route. Avoid high-traffic areas and busy streets. Wear bright or reflective clothing and always walk with an adult.
Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors can work on their Environmental Stewardship badges by completing this course.
GSUSA also offers the Girl Scout Activity Zone to support your family and makes learning, doing, and growing even more fun. Check out the GSUSA Virtual Events Calendar for additional events.
